Logging onto Your UNIX Account (Windows)

  1. Click on the Start button on the left hand side of the windows taskbar.
    Point to All Apps or All Programs or Programs.
    Click on WinSCP to launch the WinSCP program.

  2. Type cs12.cs.qc.cuny.edu in the textbox labeled Host name:.
    (If the hostname cs12.cs.qc.cuny.edu is unknown, try using 149.4.211.95 as the host name instead.)
    Type your UNIX account username in the textbox labeled User name:.
    Type your UNIX account password in the textbox labeled Password:.
    Click the Login button.

  3. If you get a Warning dialog box, click the Yes button.

  4. Assuming you typed the host name, your username and your password correctly, you should be logged into your UNIX account. Your screen should display a window like the window below except some of the text inside your window will differ from the text inside the window below.

  5. If you mistyped the host name, your username, or your password then you'll have to start back at step 1 above.


Logging off Your UNIX Account (Windows)

Remember: Always logout when you are finished using your UNIX account.

There are three ways to logout of your UNIX account:

  1. Click Commands on the menu bar, then click Quit.
  2. Or

  3. Press the F10 key at the top of your keyboard.
  4. Or

  5. Click the Close button at the top right corner of the WinSCP window.

The Confirm Terminate Session dialog box will pop-up. Click the OK button to logout of your UNIX account and close the WinSCP program.
