Lecture Assignments

This is a current list of lecture assignments given out by Dr. Waxman. New lecture assignments are added as Dr. Waxman assigns them out to the class.


  1. Blog Assignment

    The actual assignment is given on pages 20 through 22 in your lecture notes book as well as here.

    How to create your blog as well as 3 different ways to create the posts for the blog assignment.

    Part 1 of the assignment asks you to 1) create a blog and 2) write blog posts about certain material listed in the assignment description.

    You submit the web address (URL) of your blog to your lab instructor using this form: Blog URL Registration Form.

    To obtain your social networking blog URL: 1) log into your blogger.com account, and 2) click the View blog button for your blog. The URL of your blog will appear in the address bar of your web browser. The URL of your blog should look something like this: http://xyz.blogspot.com/ where xyz will be different for your URL and the http:// and .blogspot.com/ will be the same for everyone's URL.

    Due Date for Part 1: Submit this part of the assignment by Tuesday, October 3, 2017.

  2. Part 2 of the assignment asks you to choose 2 blogs. Here is the Blog URL List. For each blog, choose just one post and write and post a comment for that blog post.

    You submit the web address (URL) of the 2 blogs you chose to your lab instructor using this form: Blog Comment URLs Registration Form.

    Due Date for Part 2: Submit this part of the assignment by Tueday, October 10, 2017.

  3. Scratch Programming Assignment

    The actual assignment is given on page 39 in your lecture notes book as well as here.

    You submit the web addresses (URLs) of your Scratch courses to your lab instructor using this form: Scratch Course URLs Registration Form.

    Due Date: Submit this assignment by Tuesday, November 14, 2017.

  4. Prezi Assignment

    The actual assignment is given on pages 41 and 42 in your lecture notes book as well as here.

    The assignment asks you to create a Prezi presentation about certain material listed in the assignment description.

    You submit the web address (URL) of your Prezi presentation to your lab instructor using this form: Prezi Presentation URL Registration Form.

    To obtain your Prezi presentation URL:

    1. Log into your Prezi account.
    2. Click All prezis (on the left) to view all of your prezis.
    3. Click the Prezi you want to submit.
    4. Click the Share button (below your Prezi) to display the Share window for the Prezi.
    5. Click the Copy link button to copy the Prezi's URL to the clipboard.
    6. Go to the Prezi Presentation URL Registration Form.
    7. Paste your Prezi's URL in the box, on the form, for the Prezi presentation URL.

    Due Date: Submit this assignment by Tuesday, November 21, 2017.

  5. Open Source Assignment

    The actual assignment is given on pages 49 and 50 in your lecture notes book as well as here.

    The assignment asks you to answer 5 questions about certain material listed in the assignment description.

    You'll type your answers into a Word document (DOC or DOCX), plain text (TXT), or rich text format (RTF) file. A minimum of 2 paragraphs for the answer to each question: double spaced, font size: 12 point.

    1. Copy the questions and other text from the following webpage into your Open Source Assignment file: Open Source Answer File

    2. Save your file with the filename having the following format: your last name, followed by an underscore _, followed by your first name, followed by an underscore _, followed by the word Open.

      For example, if your name is John Doe then the filename would be: Doe_John_Open

    3. Make sure you type your full name at the location given on the first line of your file.

    4. Type your answer to each question (in your file) at the location given right below the question.

    You submit your file to your lab instructor via your CUNY Blackboard account.
    Follow these instructions:

    1. Log onto your CUNY BlackBoard account.
    2. Click on the CSCI 12 course link in the list of courses you're taking this semester.
    3. Click Information on the left side.
    4. You will see the Open Source assignment.
    5. Click on the assignment.
    6. Upload your file and then click the submit button to submit your assignment.
